Senate Bill 96 would license addiction counselors. Advance America has led the effort at the State House for many years to protect the right of pastors and church staff, volunteers as well as individuals at rescue missions and crisis pregnancy centers to continue to provide counseling and help for individuals and families in need without being licensed by the state.Advance America was at the hearing on Senate Bill 96 and supported the protection for pastors, church staff and others who want to continue to help individuals with addictions. One section of the bill that could have caused problems for pastors and others was fortunately removed from the bill with a Second Reading Amendment. We will continue to keep you updated on this important issue.

Representative Greg Steuerwald opposed House Bill 1730 and the paper quoted him as saying, “(The Democrats) want to spend the money. It’s really and truly that simple. When you get into it, that’s what it does and it’s horrifically bad in my opinion. They have stripped all the citizen input and safeguards.”
