*Major Shift in Political Landscape in Indiana!*
Here is a quick recap of the election results of November 2nd:
U.S. Senate Race
Dan Coats defeated Brad Ellsworth in the race for U.S. Senate. He replaces retiring Senator Evan Bayh.
Congressional Races
1st District | – | Rep. Pete Visclosky was re-elected |
2nd District | – | Rep. Joe Donnelly was re-elected |
3rd District | – | State Sen. Marlin Stutzman won (open seat) |
4th District | – | Sec. of State Todd Rokita won (open seat) |
5th District | – | Rep. Dan Burton was re-elected |
6th District | – | Rep. Mike Pence was re-elected |
7th District | – | Rep. Andre Carson was re-elected |
8th District | – | Larry Bucshon won (open seat) |
9th District | – | Todd Young defeated Rep. Baron Hill |
Make up of the Congressional Delegation – 6 Republicans and 3 Democrats. It was 4 Republicans and 5 Democrats before the election.
State Senate
Before the November 2nd Election the make up of the Senate was 33-17 Republican. There will be 4 new Republican Senators: Jim Tomes (District 49), Doug Eckerty (District 26), Jim Smith (District 45) and Ron Grooms (District 46). Additionally, Republican Jim Banks (District 17) replaces another Republican, Gary Dillon, who retired. The make up of the Senate will now be 37 Republicans and 13 Democrats.
Indiana House of Representatives
Before the November 2nd Election the make up of the Indiana House was 52-48 – Democrat with Rep. Pat Bauer of South Bend as Speaker of the House.
After the November 2nd Election the make up of the House will be at least 59-41 Republican with Rep. Brian Bosma of Indianapolis becoming the new Speaker of the House.
