Eric Miller and Advance America Will Lead the Effort!
On Tuesday, September 10th Eric Miller, the Founder and Executive Director of Advance America testified before a legislative committee at the State House on the need to protect the privacy of Hoosier school children and their families.
Eric appeared before the Interim Study Committee on Common Core Educational Standards made up of State Senators and State Representatives. The committee is co-chaired by Senator Dennis Kruse and Representative Bob Behning.
Eric raised the issue about Indiana’s involvement in Common Core and questioned whether Indiana’s involvement in Common Core has led to an invasion of privacy of Hoosier school children and their families.
Eric told the committee, “Protecting the privacy of students and their families is of utmost importance to the citizens of Indiana.”
Letter Requesting Information Presented To Committee!
A letter from Eric was presented to the co-chairs of the committee as well as to the other legislators serving on the committee. The letter addresses four (4) important points and asks for a response by the next meeting of the committee on October 1, 2013.
Here are the four (4) points:
- What confidential information on Hoosier students and their families is now being collected by the local schools?
- Does the federal government and others have access to this confidential information?
- What state and federal laws permit this confidential information to be given to the federal government and others or permits them to have access to it?
- Did the parents of the children give permission for the confidential information collected by the local school to be given to the federal government and others?
Hoosier Children and Their Families Must Be Protected!
Eric Miller and Advance America will stay on top of this very important issue! If legislation is necessary to protect the privacy of Indiana’s children and their families we will work with key Senators and Representatives on legislation to be considered in the 2014 General Assembly!
