HJR 3, the Marriage Protection Amendment could be voted on in the Senate on Monday, February 17th!
HJR 3 Was Not Restored To The Original Version!
HJR 3, the Marriage Protection Amendment was changed in the House of Representatives on January 27th by deleting the prohibition on same sex civil unions. In order for Hoosiers to be able to vote to add HJR 3 to the Indiana Constitution to protect marriage between one man and one woman on November 4, 2014, the Senate needed to return HJR 3 to its original version by adding back the ban on same sex civil unions. Unfortunately there were not enough votes in the Senate to do this.
Hoosiers Will Not Be Able To Vote on HJR 3 in 2014!
Since HJR 3 was not returned to its original version, (the same version that passed in 2011), then Hoosiers will not be able to vote November 4, 2014.
But A Delay Is Not A Defeat!
In order for Hoosiers to be able to vote to protect marriage between one man and one woman in 2016, the Senate must pass the amended version of HJR 3 this year and then the House of Representatives and the Senate in 2015 or 2016 must also pass the same version of HJR 3!
The Opposition Is Working to Defeat HJR 3 in the Senate This Year!
Those who support legalizing homosexual marriages in Indiana will now try to defeat HJR 3 when it is handed down for a final vote in the Senate which could come as early as Monday, February 17th. They must not win!
