On Wednesday, February 9th the Senate Health and Provider Services Committee passed Senate Bill 328. SB 328 is authored by Committee Chair, Senator Patricia Miller.

Senate Bill 328 is a pro-life bill that will amend Indiana’s informed consent for abortion law.  SB 328 had many provisions of Senate Bill 457 added to it.  SB 457 is authored by Senators Jim Banks, Dennis Kruse and Greg Walker.

The amended bill would require, among other things, that a woman seeking an abortion be provided with information in writing, at least 18 hours before the abortion, certain facts about her unborn baby and adoptions.

She would be told that life begins at conception and that the unborn baby may feel pain when the abortion occurs.  She would be offered the opportunity to see an ultrasound of her unborn baby and hear the baby’s heartbeat.

She would also be provided with information about assistance available to her if she decided to carry the baby to term including information about the option of adoption.

Eric Miller had the opportunity to testify at the initial committee hearing on SB 328 and SB 457 at the State House on Monday evening, February 7th.

The bill now moves to the full Senate.  Everyone who supports this pro-life effort should contact their State Senator and ask them to “Vote YES on Senate Bill 328 to give women seeking an abortion information about their unborn baby and information about the risks of abortion.”

We’ll keep you updated on this pro-life effort at the State House!
