On Wednesday, February 16 the Health and Provider Services Committee heard testimony on Senate Bill 56 dealing with government control over church child care ministries.
Eric Miller led off the testimony in opposition to Senate Bill 56. Eric coordinated the testimony of other key individuals from around the state who also are opposed to giving the government more control over church ministries.
The committee was made aware that there was no justification for changing the law to give the government control over churches. They were also informed that parents are responsible for raising children and not the government!
Victory In Committee
After more that an hour of testimony, both for and against the bill, Senator Patricia Miller, the Chair of the Committee announced that she would not be taking a vote on the bill! The bill died in her committee!
This was a victory for the families, children and churches of Indiana!
The Battle Is Not Over!
The language from Senate Bill 56 could be added to another bill this year in the legislature!
Advance America will continue to lead the effort to protect churches and their ministries from government control and to support parental responsibility!
We will continue to monitor legislation and oppose any effort to change the current law to give the government control over any church ministry!
Thank you for your calls and emails to your Senators! They made a difference!
